The all-new BMW ActiveHybrid X6 and ActiveHybrid 7 Preview

ActiveHybrid technology provides a glimpse into the future, achieving outstanding driving dynamics with equally impressive efficiency. It melds all of these qualities to offer a truly unique experience, and at the same time, reduces fuel consumption by approximately 20 percent versus a comparable vehicle powered by a combustion engine alone. The result: even greater on-road pleasure combined with enhanced energy management. This provides the kind of progress that make the ActiveHybrid X6 and ActiveHybrid 7 genuine BMW powertrains in a greener market.

Both vehicles feature an upgraded twin-turbo, High Precision Direct Injection, V8 engine with a 3-phase synchronous electric motor positioned between the engine and torque converter. When the driver requires more power, the electric motors supply additional torque for enhanced performance, boosting the overall output of the vehicle—be it Sports Activity Coupe or luxury sedan.

Imagine getting up to 480-hp in the ActiveHybrid X6 and 455-hp in the ActiveHybrid 7, without an increase in fuel consumption for maximum versatility.

BMW ActiveHybrid technology has been developed specifically for placement in particularly dynamic vehicles with a broad range of practical use. Coupled with cutting-edge suspension technology for maximum control and comfort, the big advantage is optimized efficiency in all speed ranges and conditions.

The 2010 BMW ActiveHybrids will feature BMW Ultimate Service™, which includes the BMW Maintenance Program, Roadside Assistance and the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The most powerful hybrids in the world not only raise the standard of efficient performance, they also provide owners with incredible value and peace of mind.

THE NEW 6th GENERATION BMW 5 SERIES
The Perfect Symbiosis of Modern Design and Dynamic Performance.

The world debut of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan marks the epitome of modern design and driving pleasure in the world of premium midsize sedans. Through its athletic and executive looks, driving dynamics typical of BMW, and innovative comfort and safety features, the sixth generation of BMW's executive express accurately reflects the standards upheld by the world's most successful manufacturer of premium cars.

Design: charismatic and athletic.
With the longest wheelbase in the segment, a long and sleek hood, short overhangs, and a coupe-like roofline, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan stands out clearly from the competition. Overall, the aesthetic looks of the car are achieved through balanced proportions. Design features emblematic of BMW are to be found at the front with its kidney grille inclined slightly forward, in the stylish and elegant side view of the car, and at the muscular rear end.

Within the interior, precise functionality and a fresh ambience come together in perfect harmony, unmistakable style, and clear orientation to the driver.

Driving experience: benchmark dynamics and exceptional comfort.
Highly advanced drivetrain and suspension technologies combine agile handling for the driver and a high standard of riding comfort for passengers. When equipped with the Sport Package, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan includes Adaptive Drive, which encompasses Driving Dynamics Control, Electronic Damper Control, and Active Roll Stabilization. Optional Integral Active Steering will virtually extend or shorten the vehicle's wheelbase for improved stability at high speeds and enhanced agility at lower speeds.

At launch, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will be available with one V-8 and one inline-6 gasoline engine. The top-of-the-range BMW 550i arrives with BMW's reverse-flow V-8 engine featuring twin turbochargers and High Precision direct injection for maximum output of 400 hp. The new inline-6 of the BMW 535i features a single twin-scroll turbocharger, High Precision direct injection, and, for the first time, VALVETRONIC throttle-less intake technology. It delivers a maximum output of 300 hp and 300 lb-ft. The 535i and 550i will be available with a choice of 6-speed manual transmission, BMW's new 8-speed automatic transmission, or new 'Sport Automatic' 8-speed.

Later, the BMW 528i will debut with a 240 hp inline-6 featuring lightweight magnesium-aluminum construction and VALVETRONIC throttle-less intake technology for efficiency and unparalleled responsiveness.

Z4 sDrive35is model makes world premiere at NAIAS

Combining classic proportions with modern features, the BMW Z4 Roadster enjoys the top spot in its market segment. Now, the new BMW Z4 sDrive35is distills the Roadster's performance potential to produce one of BMW's fastest and best-handling Roadsters ever. The BMW Z4 sDrive35is is making its world debut as a 2011 model at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. It arrives here at West German BMW in Spring 2010.

More air, boost, and torque: More BMW performance.
The latest Z4 model is characterized by instantaneous response to the accelerator pedal, fantastic sounds, and a free-revving spirit. The engine features increased air intake flow and increased boost pressure to release more power with the same standard of efficiency. The combination of twin low-mass turbochargers and High Precision direct injection offers an output a naturally-aspirated engine would only be able to provide through more cylinders and larger displacement. The turbocharger system developed for the engine of the new BMW Z4 sDrive35is maintains a high output throughout the entire engine speed range. Nominal peak torque is increased to 332 lb-ft from 1,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. Maximum output of 335 hp is delivered at 5,800 rpm.

Overboost function for athletic acceleration.
The enhanced engine management system of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is includes an electronically-controlled overboost function to briefly increase torque under full load by another 37 lb-ft. This temporary torque peak of 369 lb-ft gives the car a significant increase in acceleration. The BMW Z4 sDrive35is will complete the sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds (preliminary). Top speed of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is is limited electronically to 250 km/h or 155 mph.
